Route 5 Southtowns Connector

updated November 21, 2008

Dear Friends,

Today, our organization calls upon the NYS DOT to take the Route 5 reconstruction project in Buffalo to the next level.  We would like them to capitalize upon the fact that they have already begun removing the elevated Route 5 embankment and finish the job.  This project is technically and financially feasible and would return between 77-80 acres of prime waterfront land to the Buffalo tax rolls.  The roadway would eventually
resemble something closer to the Scajaquada Expressway (but much nicer and with 10,000 less cars/trucks per day) - would support both local businesses and commuters and WOULD NOT look anything like Niagara Falls Boulevard.
If you want to see Buffalo do something really remarkable - and seize this incredible moment, we invite you to reach out to the Buffalo News, Governor Patterson, Congressman Higgins and Mayor Brown and the DOT.
